Help every baby take their first breath.

A baby born in Zanzibar is 6 times more likely to die than a baby born in the US.

In Zanzibar, 1,334 newborns die each year. 387 of these newborns die because of having difficulty breathing at birth. In most cases these deaths are preventable with proper supplies and training. Here at For Mamas, our mission is to change this one baby at a time.

Meet baby Ikram.

Ikram was born in Kitope, a rural northern village in Zanzibar, Tanzania. When he was born he had difficulty breathing at birth. Matawa and Mgeni are the midwives who were there when Ikram was born. They had been trained through For Mamas and had resuscitation supplies available in their facility.

They intervened for him.

Ikram started breathing quickly after intervention. Ikram’s life was saved. He is adored by his mother and older sister.
